Description
12 portraits ofChristian leaders,
1872-1885
This is a fine collection of a dozen wood engraved prints which were featured as the cover pages of various issues of
The Illustrated Christian Weekly
, an uncommon pictorial journal from the 1800s. They feature portraits of religious figures.
They are all over 125 years old.
Each page measures approximately 11x16 inches in size. The one of Rev. Tyng has some light dampstaining, and the others show a little wear or slight age browning, but overall the group is in excellent and attractive, displayable condition.
Below is a list of the men portrayed in the collection, and the year the individual sheets were published. Most of their illustrations dominate the page. Eight of the portraits are accompanied by informative biographical articles on the men depicted, either following the portrait, or on the reverse side of the page.
All the prints are shown in the accompanying photos.
Their subjects are:
1872: Rev. William Taylor.
1872: Father Rev. Charles Cleveland.
1872: Charles Hodge, D.D., LL.D, Princeton Theological Seminary.
1874: Rev. William Arnot.
1874: T. De Witt Talmage, D.D.
1875: Rev. William Hallock, D.D.
